| “ | That part of you the world sees, they think it's perfect. As God intended. Even these idiots and lunatics see it. There's something special about you. On the surface. But when they look deeper, when anybody with eyes to see looks at what you truly are. That's why they don't trust you. You're not what you're meant to be. Not yet. This place can see into your mind. And the things you've done. Oh, they're a sin, darling. But a flower is only as sweet as the soil that nourishes it. And yours need nourishing, and pruning, and care. | „ |
| ~ Eddie Gluskin pursuing Waylon. |
Edward "Eddie" Gluskin, also known as the Groom, is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Frank Manera) of the 2014 survival horror video game Outlast: Whistleblower, the DLC midquel to Outlast.
He is a psychotic, merciless, and misogynistic serial killer committed as a Variant at Mount Massive Asylum. Obsessed with making a bride for himself by kidnapping and turning men into women through surgical mutilation, Gluskin chooses protagonist Waylon Park as his next attempt when he is forced to travel through Gluskin's territory.
He was voiced by Graham Cuthbertson.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Evil Deeds[]
Background[]
- Before being interned to the asylum, he was a misogynistic serial killer who mutilated many women.
- In order to find the perfect "bride", he would capture many men and remove their genitals and add breasts in order to make them look more like women.
- If they would reject his love, he would hang their corpses on the celling of the gymnasium.
- While most of his kills happen off screen, they have on screen effects with a total of fifty bodies being strung up in the gymnasium with their genitals cut off and breasts being added, with dead bodies also being able to be found all around Gluskin's hideout.
Outlast: Whistleblower[]
- When he sees Waylon, he pursues him and will kill him if he catches him by stabbing his groin.
- He captured Waylon in order to make him his next bride, knocking him out with sleeping gas.
- From Waylon's view while he is in the locker, he is operating a man by stabbing their genitals causing him to bleed to death and killed another one by cutting his genitals in half and shoving his face into a buzzsaw, killing him instantly with Eddie claiming he didn't deserve love.
- He tries to cut Waylon's genitals in half with an electric saw. He only fails because a variant punched him, and Eddie decides to run after him.
- Before operating on Waylon, he tells him he needs to be pretty to receive his seed for their children, hinting that he would have raped him if he miraculously survived.
- When Waylon is about to escape, he tries to kill him by hanging him with a rope.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- While his acts of mass murder and mutilation allow him to easily pass the baseline, he massively fails the heinous standards to the Ex-Pop who did far more cruel acts with mostly comparable resources.
- He's too tragic for Near Pure Evil as he was sexually abused by his father and uncle while shown to be clearly affected by it.
- Due to the experiment he endured, he is mentally insane and has moral agency issues. Although he was originally a serial killer before then, he committed his worst crimes as a Variant.
