Duke McGahan, also known as The Crooked Man, is the titular main antagonist of the RPG horror game of the same name. He is the former tenant of David Hoover's unnamed apartment where he once lived.
Prior to the events of the game, he committed suicide years ago through hanging, thus his ghost assuming the identity of the Crooked Man. It is revealed that Sissi, D, and Fluffy were the figments of his past that David encountered throughout the respective chapters of the game's story.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- He will haunt David, the new resident in his former apartment, even leaving bloody writings on his mirror.
- Throughout the game, in his main form he will stalk and follow after David, presumably killing him.
- He drives David to the point of nearly commiting suicide due to the torment, actually succeeding in doing so if Paul doesn't talk David out of it.
- Thanks to his actions, he posthumously ended up causing detective Keith to suspect that David is a murder supsect since Duke led him to his house using supernatural notes and David had no way to prove he was being haunted.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- With his only crime being tormenting and attempting to kill David, he fails the Heinous Standard to Brendon Dumont, a serial killer who tortured his victims with less resources.
- His murders happen offscreen and it's unclear how painful.
- Like David, he is incredibly tragic for a few reasons:
- At a young age, he was abandoned by his mother who passed away in the hospital.
- He attended law school and no matter how hard he practiced, he could never pass and was deemed a failure.
- Due to his cowardice, he ended up being abandoned by his girlfriend who he loved deeply.
- Due to his low income, he lived in a cheap aparmtment by himself and was completely lonely, eventually driving him to commit suicide at his mother's house.
- In summary, thanks to his tragedies David empathizes with him and the focus of the game is mainly David helping Duke come to peace with himself. David even visits his grave at the cemetery.
- He seemingly redeems himself after David defeats him and becomes a guardian spirit and invisible friend to David.
