Derby Harrington is one of the secondary antagonists (alongside Johnny Vincent, Ted Thomson, and Earnest Jones) of the 2006 video game Bully. The snobbish leader of the Preppies clique, he is a typical arrogant, stuck-up rich bully who is overbearing of others. He serves as the arch-rival of Johnny Vincent, the leader of Greasers clique.

He was voiced by John LaVelle.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

  • Due to his wealth and high social status, he enjoys bullying other kids at Bullworth, especially Johnny and the Greasers, while insulting them for having no money.
  • It’s heavily implied, that he slept with his own nanny, which led to him being beaten by his father, despite Derby dating his cousin Pinky.
  • He went to The Hole, just to see Jimmy and Russell beat each other up.
  • He referred to Bif as a "filthy democrat," just for losing a boxing match.
  • He tried to beat Jimmy up, as revenge for him beating Bif in the aforementioned boxing match.
  • He had Jimmy, tag Greaser turf, after they beat up Gord (no thanks to Jimmy), which led to the Greasers turning against Jimmy (combined with Lola’s actions).
  • He acted verbally abusive towards Jimmy, when his trophies were stolen by the Townies.
  • When Jimmy got evidence to prove the Townies were behind the theft, Derby refused to see the picture, whilst mocking Jimmy.
  • He helped to participate in the Bullworth Riot, by ordering his gang to cause as much carnage as possible.
  • While you could argue he redeems himself at the end of the game, it isn’t a genuine redemption, as he was defeated, and knowing his personality, likely only cheered Jimmy on along with everyone else was just for show.
  • Although it is mentioned that he was abused by his father, it doesn’t make him tragic due to his actions.
  • Although Derby obviously wasn’t raised properly, he clearly knows right from wrong in his actions.

Why Doesn’t He Stand Out?[]

  • He fails the heinous standard way too hard to Gary Smith, Edgar Munsen, Gurney, Mr. Burton, and to an extent even Johnny Vincent and Lola Lombardi, as the latter herself caused a mini riot that endangered many innocent people. Although indirectly fueled by Derby, it wasn’t his intention, and it’s unknown if Derby even knew about the riot his men were involved in, meaning he doesn’t pass the baseline. While he did help in the Bullworth Riot, he did nothing but order his men to do everything and try to beat Jimmy up. Him having more resources than any other antagonist in the game, far from helps Derby’s case as well.
  • Despite occasionally acting abusive towards them, he does genuinely care for the other Preppies, and despite being calling him "a filthy democrat," he is mentioned by other students in free roam to be very close friends with Bif Taylor, his right-hand man.

Trivia[]

  • According to scrapped content, it was going to be revealed that Derby knew about the brawl at the end of Chapter 3 and would even give several Preps advice on how to horribly injure and beat the Greasers. Had this been kept, Derby would’ve had a far better chance at qualifying as Inconsistently Heinous, or even Near Pure Evil due to the ambiguousness of Derby’s "redemption" at the end of the game.
