Debra "Deb" Morgan is a deuteragonist of the crime series Dexter that ran from 2006 to 2013. She is the adoptive sister of Dexter Morgan and the daughter of Harrison Morgan. She was a detective turned lieutenant in Miami Metro Homicide.
Her Evil Ranking[]
Her Villainous Deeds[]
- She almost shot and killed Joey Nunez, a teenager, in a rage but was stopped by Angel Batista, though she felt horrified after what she realized what she tried to do.
- Even though she is disgusted from the realization that her adoptive brother is a killer, she willingly helps him to burn the body of Travis Marshall at his abandoned church.
- She tries to alter evidence to avoid Laguerta from reopening the Miami Bay Harbor Butcher case.
- After Maria Laguerta rightfully arrested Dexter Morgan for his crimes, she let Dexter escape and killed Laguerta, though she felt horrible guilt after doing it.
- She shoots El Sapo to death although he deserved it.
- After she finds out that Harry killed himself because of what Dexter became as a result of his training, she attempts to kill Dexter as well as herself by hijacking his car and driving it into the bay to drown themselves.
Why She Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- She passes the general baseline with two murders, aiding and abetting a serial killer and trying to drown her own brother, but she massively fails the heinous standards of the series.
- She fails to Jordan Chase (who is a cult leader who not only influenced his men to kill numerous women but also rape them despite his indirect kill count only being 12, which goes beyond the bog standard acts of the series), Dexter Morgan (who is a serial killer who killed 149+ people and started when he was 20), Brian Moser (although he has less kills than Dexter, his kills are far more brutal and gruesome than that of Dexter and even traumatized Deb because of his acts, meaning that he has personal villainy towards her), the Trinity killer (who has the highest kill count in the entire series and has killed children and has extremely personal villainy towards Dexter for killing his wife), her father (despite him having about the same resources as her as they were both police lieutenants, his actions of training Dexter led to him becoming a serial killer, making him responsible for all of the people that Dexter killed in his time as a serial killer). And Evelyn Vogel (who was content with Dexter being a serial killer and was actually the one to develop the code of harry for Dexter to kill people who deserved it.)
- She is FAR too sympathetic, tragic, and remorseful for NPE.
- Brian Moser attempted to kill her as an infant.
- She was often neglected and treated unfairly by her father because he favoured Dexter.
- She was devastated when she lost her mother when she was 16 due to cancer.
- A party-goer attempted to rape her while she was unconscious when she was 17, thankfully, Dexter barged in on time to save her.
- She was devastated when her father died and was falsely reported as a heart failure, this became even worse when the truth was revealed that he committed suicide because of his remorse of moulding Dexter into a serial killer).
- She was heavily traumatized by Brian Moser as she thought that he loved her too, but only got with her to get closer to Dexter.
- Her finding out that Dexter was a serial killer was a terrible revelation for her as it completely destroyed her view of him being a good person, and this caused a horrific downward spiral in her life that led to her eventually dropping out from Miami Metro.
- After killing Laguerta, she fell into a deep depression and resigned from Miami Metro.
- She is a villain by proxy due to never wanting to be a villain in the first place, feeling trapped in the impossible situation of turning in her own brother to be imprisoned forever or executed vs. abetting his activities.
- She is very insecure as she often doubts her abilities, morals, and place in the homicide department and wants to follow in her father's footsteps from this insecurity.
- Her death was played extremely sympathetically as she had a stroke and went into a vegetative state, essentially going braindead before Dexter sombrely pulled the plug out of mercy and as he evacuated the hurricane, he took Debra's body out to sea in a sober manner wrapped in white, which symbolises that Dexter genuinely loves her and was his one link to humanity that is now gone.
- Dexter pulling the plug to spare her from an indefinite coma is also something she asked for him to do years ago if she ever reached that state.
- She is a scapegoat due to her mental struggles, losing multiple people whom she cared about, being traumatized by several situations and ultimately killed by her own brother out of mercy. None of this punishment is truly deserved because she is a good person at heart and it outweighs the things she did wrong.
- She is honorable and has standards, as she finds the crimes of various villains in the series despicable, particularly those of the Barrel Girl Gang, and she is also uncomfortable with Dexter as a serial killer despite supporting him.
- She is portrayed as heroic throughout most of the series due to her saving several people from dangerous criminals and attempting to track down serial killers, making her even more on & off than Dexter.
- She genuinely loves her friends and family. She is often seen doing good by or protecting her co-workers, and as for her family, she always sought approval from Harry and goes as far as to try to reform Dexter to stop him from killing.
- To drive this point home, she was always in love with Dexter romantically.
- She is usually nice to everyone, and a fair amount of her jerk moments were understandable due to the situations she was in at those times.
