Deathstorm, also known as the Black Flame, is the secondary antagonist of Season 8 of the TV series The Flash.
He is a mysterious and paranormal entity that resembles cold fusion flames. Created from Ronnie Raymond's death, this entity went on a killing spree in order to feed off the grief of others and gain a physical form, in order to become all powerful. He is the arch-nemesis and killer of Killer Frost.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- He killed at least a dozen people by burning them to death, feeding on their grief to satisfy his hunger for it.
- He killed Stan Mullen and Donna Winters just because Caitlin knew them from her double date with Frost, framing Jaco Birch for the crime in the process. Deathstorm would continue to kill people close to Caitlin in an attempt to find her.
- He infiltrated S.T.A.R. Labs and poses as Chester P. Runk’s late father so he could kill him.
- He attacked Frost in her apartment, injuring her in the process and later leading to her attempting to use herself as bait to capture Deathstorm.
- He manipulated Caitlin into giving him a physical body by pretending to be her dead husband Ronnie Raymond.
- He revealed his deception to Caitlin and taunted her that Ronnie was dead before attempting to transform her into a being like him, which left Caitlin in a catatonic state.
- He attacked and killed several more innocents in order to feed on their grief.
- He possessed Cecile Horton when Team Flash tried to use her to track him, taunting them that he would feed on their grief and make Caitlin his “bride”.
- He appeared to Allegra Garcia as her cousin Esperanza Garcia in an attempt to feed off of her grief.
- He kidnapped Caitlin and took her to an amusement park, where he killed 4 more people before attempting to transform Caitlin again.
- He sent several phantoms after Team Flash to psychologically torture them into giving in to their grief so he could transfer it all into Caitlin.
- He taunted Frost by claiming she was just a carbon copy of Caitlin and thus she wasn’t a real person.
- He attempted to kill Frost after she turned herself into Hellfrost.
- Despite his death, Deathstorm got the last laugh in the end as his powers were too much for Frost to handle and resulted in her death. This would have a deeper impact on Caitlin and lead to her experiments to resurrect Frost, inadvertently resulting in her death and Khione inhabiting her body. Frost’s death also led Chillblaine to betray Team Flash and temporarily ally with Red Death in exchange for bringing Frost back.
- While he only kills people to survive, Deathstorm takes clear sadism in killing them, preventing this from counting as a redeeming quality.
- Although he claims to love Caitlin and tried to make her his "bride" so he wouldn't be alone, there's no proof he genuinely cares about her and it seems to be pure obsession like Zoom.
Why He Doesn’t Stand Out?[]
- He fails the Heinous Standards of the Arrowverse due to his worst crimes being common place in the franchise. While his method of burning people alive and feeding off of their grief is unique, it still doesn’t help him stand out.
