Chien Na Wei, more commonly known as China White, is a major antagonist in the TV series Arrow.
She is mercenary, assassin and leader of the Chinese Triad gangs occupied in Star City. She later becomes a member of the Ghost Initiative, a newer version of the Suicide Squad.
She is portrayed by Kelly Hu.

Background[]
- When one of her classmates mocked that her parents were “better off dead”, Chien flew into a rage and stabbed her in the hand with a pencil.
- She joined the Chinese Triad as an assassin, killing numerous people over the years. She would amass a reputation so infamous, that Amanda Waller was willing to destroy a plane just to kill her, thus making Chien indirectly responsible for Edward Fyers’ actions on Lian Yu.
- She drugged a man with Vitura to force him to steal the Omega virus for her, leading to the man being tortured for information by Oliver Queen and Maseo Yamashiro, which was a fruitless effort since the man had memory of what had happened.
- She attacked Maseo’s wife, Tatsu Yamashiro in a sword fight in front of their son and took her hostage, offering her back to Maseo in exchange for the Omega virus.
- After realizing the virus Maseo and Oliver gave her was a fake, Chien ordered her men to kill them.
- She attempted to sell the Omega virus on the black market, not caring that it was capable of killing thousands of innocent people.
- She attempted to execute Maseo’s wife and son before being stopped by Oliver.
Season 1[]
- She managed to escape from prison and led a drug smuggling operation in Starling City and became an assassin for hire, willing to kill any target for money.
- She paid Martin Somers large bribes in exchange for allowing the Triad to use Starling Port to aid in their operations.
- She killed Victor Nocenti to prevent him from exposing Martin Somers’ crimes, leaving Victor’s daughter an orphan.
- She desired to kill Emily Nocenti to suppress the allegations against Somers, but even Somers found that a bit much and orders Chien to kill Laurel Lance instead.
- She attacked Laurel in her apartment after murdering the police officers guarding her.
- She fought John Diggle and nearly stabbed him with a knife before being disarmed by Oliver.
- She attempted to kill Somers to tie up loose ends on the Triad’s drug operation, showing she has no loyalty to her employers and will kill them if necessary.
- She led a group of men to attack Frank Bertinelli’s mansion in an attempt to kill him, believing him to be responsible for the death of Zhishan. She proceeded to kill several of his bodyguards and nearly kills Bertinelli himself before the Hood stops her.
- Under Moira Queen’s hire, she attempted to assassinate Malcolm Merlyn. She also recruited Deadshot for her mission, pulling him out of retirement in the process and making Chien responsible for his crimes after that point.
Season 2[]
- She worked with Ben Turner to hijack trucks that were transporting medicine to the Glades Memorial Hospital, causing a shortage of medicine at the hospital.
- She dueled the Hood once again and attempted to kill the archer for thwarting her in the past.
- She mocked the Hood for developing a code against killing before being incarcerated at Iron Heights Prison.
Season 5[]
- She escaped from a prison bus with Carrie Cutter and Liza Warner, even killing the guards. The trio proceeded to go on a murderous rampage to claim the late Tobias Church’s money.
Season 7[]
- She initially refused to join the Ghost Initiative, only doing so reluctantly after A.R.G.U.S. placed a bomb in her head.
Season 8[]
- She tried to kidnap Dr. Robert Wong upon discovering he was recreating the Alpha-Omega virus.
- She forced a bomb vest on Dr. Wong, offering to remove it in exchange for the virus.
- She attempted to kill Tatsu with her own sword.
Why She Doesn’t Stand Out?[]
- She fails the Heinous Standards of the Arrowverse, particularly to Matthew Shrieve, who attempted to commit genocide on all of China.
- She has a tragic backstory as she witnessed her parents being killed in front of her and was then bullied and ostracized by her peers, leading to her becoming an assassin trained by Zhishan to ensure she could never be hurt again.
- She has a friendship with Carrie Cutter, even killing a sleazy thug that made a pass at her. She also cares for her mentor Zhishan for taking her in and even attempting to kill Frank Bertinelli when she thought he killed him.
