The Chief Guard is a major antagonist in the 1984 action-adventure film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, the second installment of the Indiana Jones film series.
He is a Thuggee cultist who serves the slavemaster of all the Mayapore children enslaved to work in the mines beneath Pankot Palace for diamonds and Sankara Stones. As the right-hand of Mola Ram, the Chief Guard faces Indiana Jones when he comes to rescue all the child workers.
He was portrayed by the late Pat Roach.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- He was the primary one in charge of the slavery of the children having them whipped and tortured to get them working in the mines.
- While flat in character, he takes sadistic pleasure in torturing and enslaving the children laughing and smiling many times during the movie, allowing him to avoid being insufficiently characterized.
- Tries to crush Indy to death using the rock crusher.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- While he passes the baseline due to torturing and enslaving the children in the mines, he fails the heinous standards to Mola Ram since almost all of his crimes are done under Ram's orders, Mola Ram was the one who ordered the kidnapping of the children and the enslavement and the genocide stuff comes from supporting Mola Ram, which makes him also fail the standards to other brutal henchmen such as Klaber. The only other thing the Chief Guard does is attempting to kill Indy, though to be fair, in a somewhat cruel manner as he wanted to get Indy crushed to death by the rock crusher.
Trivia[]
- The Chief Guard is one of the only three Indiana Jones villains (alongside Walter Donovan and Irina Spalko) to be a Villainous Benchmark.
