| ~ Chef Saltbaker revealing his true colors. |
Chef Saltbaker is the main antagonist of Cuphead's DLC expansion The Delicious Last Course. He is the renowned chef of Inkwell Isles who plots to obtain the ingredients required to bake the Wondertart, allowing him to gain control over the Astral Plane.
He is voiced by Luke De Ayora.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- Although he did present himself as a friend to Ms. Chalice and the Cup Bros, it is mainly a facade to hide his twisted, psycho, megalomaniacal desires to use the Wondertart to rule over the Astral Plane.
- Is implied to have wronged the residents of Inkwell Isle 4 in some way, considering that they were confirmed to have disliked him.
- The background of his cellar is shown to have skulls which could mean that he killed people.
- After Ms. Chalice and Mugman collect all of the ingredients, he reveals that he had snatched up Cuphead's soul, plotting on baking it in the Wondertart.
- If Ms. Chalice is in Mugman's place during the fight, Saltbaker kidnaps Mugman's soul instead. Furthermore, if the Astral Cookie isn't used during the fight, Saltbaker abducts Ms. Chalice's soul instead.
- During his boss fight, he brutally slaughters several of the sapient ingredients, breaking the sugar cube in pieces, flattening the dough and cutting it up into horse cookies, slicing and dicing the limes and throwing their eviscerated corpses at the players, and squeezing the berries out of a barrel.
- Although Cuphead is pretty comical, Chef Saltbaker is taken completely seriously all the time and stands out as the darkest character in the entire franchise, even more than The Devil himself.
- He is even worse than Mortimer Freeze and The Mob since while Mortimer Freeze is a cult leader who had his powers as his Cult audience, his evil action of attempting to kill Mugman, Cuphead and Ms. Chalice was done to protect his ingredient from Saltbaker while Saltbaker was evil due to wanting to takeover Astral Plane with his Wondertart and has no real reason to be evil as he doesn't have a backstory on why he is the evil psycho that he is and the Mobs where just petty criminals.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- While him sadistically killing the sentient food and trying to sacrifice one of the protagonist's souls by baking them into the Wondertart is bad enough to pass the general baseline, the fact that they do not stay dead lessens how bad he is, thus failing the heinous standards The Devil, who tried to steal the souls of dozens of people and succeeded in bad ending, and the Rook, who has permanently killed a few people.
- In the credits, he redeems himself by doing community service for the residents of Inkwell Isle 4 and rebuilding his bakery, presumably finding some way to turn Ms. Chalice mortal and baking pastries as an apology gift to the residents of Inkwell Isle.
- He is also remorseful for his previous actions, stating he shouldn't have "let all that power to his head".
Trivia[]
- He was once considered Inconsistently Heinous. However, after it was pointed out that him killing the ingredients wasn't permanent, he was removed.
