ā | Bucciarati: Earlier, I saw nobility and resolve that was hardened like a diamond, shining in your eyes. But you've fallen. Now you're just a piece of shit. Pesci: Fallen? Fallen, you say?! The only ones who are going to fall and get crushed are these bastards! |

~ Bruno Bucciarati on Pesci's debase. |
Villainous Benchmarks who used to have certain redeeming qualities, but would come to shed some, most or all of them later on, dehumanizing them, be it love, mercy, empathy, honor, nobility, etc.
A subcategory of villains in this category are Wholly Debased villains, villains who ultimately manage to subvert ALL of their redeeming qualities.
Fallen Heroes and Tragic should fall under this category UNLESS they are completely redeemed. Unless they would rather stay villainous, redeemed villains cannot be debased because debased villains are supposed to be irredeemable. Even in some cases, some redeemed villains may lose some redeeming qualities, but if they completely redeem themselves, they can no longer qualify.
Examples (excluding Fallen Heroes) are:
Please do not add villains who have faked their own redeeming qualities and/or tragedies. They should go under Charismatic, Fake Tragic, Faux Affably Evil, Remorse Fakers, False Lovers and/or Liars. This category is for villains who once had genuine redeeming qualities but later subverted them.
It is possible for villains to be Wholly Debased (and become completely evil), but only if they fail the in-story standards too much or, for the case of villains who pass them, are simply bog-standard (e.g. Dr. Royce Hemlock, and Princess Morbucks). In some cases, they might not become wholly debased but come extremely close to it (e.g. ChloƩ Bourgeois and Johnny Worthington III).
They are the opposite of Reformed Heroic Benchmarks.
