~ Captain Ginyu preparing to switch bodies with an opponent. |
Captain Ginyu is the leader of Frieza's elite mercenary group, the Ginyu Special Forces and the secondary antagonist of the "Namek" Saga of Dragon Ball Z. He has the ability to switch bodies with an opponent. He was the strongest of the Ginyu Force (with a power level of 120,000), and, until Goku's power level reached 180,000 from his training in 100 times gravity, he was the fourth strongest fighter in the universe who was after Frieza and his father King Cold. He returns in the "Resurrection F" Saga of Dragon Ball Super.
In the Japanese version, he was voiced by Hideyuki Hori, while in the English version, he was voiced by Richard Newman (Ocean Group), Dale D. Kelly (FUNimation), the late Brice Armstrong (DBZ, remastered), Richard Epcar (Bang Zoom!) and R. Bruce Elliot (DBZ Kai).
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
Namek Saga[]
- As a high-ranking member of the Frieza force, it is implied that he has committed mass murder across the galaxy as lower-ranking members like Raditz and King Vegeta have been seen doing so.
- He killed a Frieza Soldier, Captain Strong, for being a captain like him, as he believed that he should be the only captain.
- He killed another Frieza Soldier for touching a Dragon Ball, which he had forbidden them to do
- He knocked out a bunch of Frieza Soldier because they lacked enough style to be on the Ginyu Force.
- During his battle with Goku, he switches bodies with him and tries to kill him.
- He injured himself before doing the body swap technique to make him die after swapping.
- He tries to kill Krillin and Gohan, who dug up the dragon balls.
- He attempted to switch bodies with Vegeta twice.
Filler/Anime Only[]
- He tricked Bulma into putting a universal translator on him, allowing him to steal her body and leave her trapped in Ginyu's old frog body.
- He attacked Krillin, but he was unable to inflict any damage, so he tried to switch bodies with Piccolo.
Golden Frieza Saga[]
- He was able to trick Tagoma into switching bodies by writing 'Change' in the dirt.
- He tried to kill the Z fighters after being told to by Frieza.
- Ginyu showed some hatred towards Goku and Vegeta for him being trapped in a body of a frog for so many years and then he attempted to attack them out of vengeance.
Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- He fails the heinous standard to Vegeta (who himself fails the heinous standards), Frieza, Cell, Babidi and most forms of Majin Buu.
- Most of his crimes are offscreen as he is seen only trying to kill Goku and the rest of the Z-Fighters.
- Although mass murder is implied, it is off-screen and not even mentioned.
- He has respect for his teammates, as when he was told that Goku defeated Recoome and Burter he was very angry, and Frieza.
- Like his team, he is played for laughs due to their flamboyant poses.
- He possesses a genuine sense of honor toward his enemies.
