Bruce is the titular main antagonist of the Jaws franchise.

He is 25 feet in length and weighs in at 3 tons Great White Shark that stakes claim to Amity Island on July 1, 1974, at night killing anyone who dares enter the water. He is the Mate of Brucette and Father of Vengeance as well as the archenemy of Chief Martin Brody.

His Evil Ranking[]

  • Attacks Alex Kinter who was a child by flipping him off his raft then pulling the boy underwater and possibly devouring him alive.
  • Causes mass panic making the people of Amity Island close the beaches until the Shark is caught.

  • Turned half the dock around heading towards Charlie in an attempt to kill him only to take the chicken causing Charlie and Denherder to panic.
  • Attacked fishermen Ben Gardener’s boat (it is unknown what happened to Ben Gardener’s first mate implying he either drowned, escaped or was killed by Bruce).
  • Torn Ben Gardner lower torso and left his upper torso in the hull of the ship.
  • Flips over a row boat in the Estuary knocking an unnamed man and Michael Brody and his two friends into the water.
  • Bites onto the unnamed man’s lower half before dragging underwater devouring him alive leaving his leg behind.
  • Causes Michael Brody to go into shock.
  • Breaks a hole into the Orca causing the engine to get full of saltwater which would cause Quin and Hooper to try and repair it.
  • Almost bites Quint hand off causing Quint to let the rope go cutting his hand.
  • Pulls the Orca which Bruce was tied to with rope causing the waves to flood into the orca including the engine hull causing black smoke to appear.
  • Attacks the Orca.
  • Attacks the Shark Cage Hooper is in in an attempt to devour him.
  • Cause Hooper to lose the spear with poison in it.
  • Breaks through the Shark Cage almost biting Hooper in half.
  • Leaps out of the ocean onto the rear of the Orca causing it to slowly sink.
  • Bites Quints torso causing him to stab Bruce with a machete.
  • Kill Quint then drags him into the ocean devouring him.
  • Attempts to kill Brody by breaking through the sinking Orca.
  • Attempts one last attempt to kill Brody as the orca is fully sinking knowing he will be able to easily kill Brody.
  • His actions caused his Mate Brucette and Son Vengeance to take revenge causing more trauma in the Brody’s and people of Amity.

Why He Doesn't Stand Out?[]

  • While he violently kills enough people to pass the baseline, he is ultimately a member of killer sharks who all committed similar crimes, with nothing indicating his crimes are unique among other killer sharks.
  • He does what sharks are intended to do by nature meaning he suffers moral agency issues.
  • While not seen together on-screen. it’s shown he genuinely cares for his mate provided by her going to Amity to avenge his death and even his son Vengeance going after the Brody family to avenge his mother Brucette and father Bruce’s death.
  • His death is slightly played for sympathy, as sad piano music plays over his body parts falling into the sea, showing despite his intelligence he was still just an animal.
