NOTE: This page covers information on the game counterpart of Bellum as its manga version is voted Pure Evil, thus only information regarding the game version should be put here. |
Bellum, also known as the Evil Phantom, is the titular main antagonist of the 2007 action-adventure game The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass.
He is the demonic, squid-like leader of the Phantoms, who was sealed within the Temple of the Ocean King to keep his parasitic influence from spreading. Years later, Bellum summons monsters to wreak havoc across the ocean and creates the Ghost Ship to drain the life force of hapless sailors. After kidnapping and draining a pirate captain named Tetra, Bellum inadvertently becomes an enemy of her best friend, Link, who sets out to rescue her and destroy Bellum once and for all.
His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- Creates the Ghost Ship, operated by the diabolical Cubus Sisters, draining the Life Force of anyone who enters it.
- Slowly drains the Life Force of Tetra and the Ocean King, forcing the latter to enter a temporary form as an old man known as Oshus.
- Creates the monsters Blaaz, Cyclok, and Crayk to imprison the spirits of Power, Wisdom, and Courage respectively, only failing with Ciela's case due to her splitting herself in two at the cost of most of her memories and powers.
- After being defeated by Link, he revives the Ghost Ship in corporeal form and infests it with Phantom eyes.
- Furthermore, when even this turns out to be no match for Link, he sinks the S.S. Linebeck out of spite.
- He then grabs Link and Tetra, forcing Linebeck to grab the Phantom Sword and stab one of his tentacles with it to save the children. He retaliates by spitefully grabbing Linebeck and turning him into Bellumbeck.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- His crimes of serial murder pass the general baseline and engaging in a fight with the Ocean King (the game's main deity) are enough to pass the general baseline, there are other villains in the franchise who have done similar deeds, meaning he ultimately fails the heinous standards.
- His moral agency is questionable at best as he seems to not have the ability to tell right from wrong, making him a generic doomsday villain.
- Even if this wasn't the case, he is still insufficiently characterized. He has no lines of dialogue and only makes squid-like sounds.
- Contrary to popular belief, the line "Link..." (which is said before the final battle) is actually Linebeck calling out to Link for help. It isn't Bellum speaking.
