Barbro Andrean Ield Ryle Vaiself or simply Prince Barbro is a minor antagonist in the Overlord series.
He was voiced by Taiten Kusunoki in Japanese and by Newton Pittman in English.

His Villainous Deeds[]
- Has no care for his Kingdom and only want to be king for power. He accepted Eight Fingers money to let their crime and actions go out of control.
- Was planning on killing his brother Zanaic and selling his sister Renner to slavery, while planning on making Naberal Gamma’s Nabe alter-ego his lover even though he already has an wife.
- He did nothing in the events of Demonic Disturbance cowarding with Noble Faction while King and loyal followers protected people from the demons.
- His arrogance to proving himself made him cause his downfall as when he got sent to Carne Village to speak and question the villagers normally by his father to avoid fighting out of genuine care, he only use it as a opportunity by to use their connection to Ainz Ooal Gown to draft them so be forced to withdraw and if he risk kills them in Katz Plains battle it would destroy the Sorcerer Kingdom's reputation. He rushed his men over not caring if some collapse from exhaustion
- When Carne Village refused to corporate he wanted to kill them all before being convinced to burn a tower down to keep his reputation intact to intimidate them to surrender, this only makes it backfire and make them resist more not caring if they did. When Enri has Ogres and Goblins kill some of his troops, he used them trampling as a excuse to massacre the entire village except for key figures to question by calling it "an enemy stronghold" meaning he will commit genocide to feed his ego. Even when Enri used her second horn to summon in army he attempt to fight even though it was futile until he was forced to retreat with what is left of his army.
- When he got back to remaining forces exhausted thanks to his earlier actions they were unable to fight off the Goblins Lupusregina Beta summoned kill his remaining forces specifically to spite him.
- He attempt to use his position as prince to beg for his life to be spared and not care if his other men gets killed to their shock. However it fails as Lupusregina Beta had no intention of sparing him due to her stating Ainz Ooal Gown has zero use in his plans especially since he protected Carne Village in his name, so Barbro's attack on it is another reasons to not spare him. He panics cowardly before being at her mercy before being tortured for 30 minutes to death before dying from the shock.
- Even though his 30 minute torture to death by Lupusregina Beta was brutal, it is not played for Sympathy in fact for satisfaction for his corrupted acts to fit is ego on attempt his attempt on drafting innocent people to be killed before on geocoding when they resisted and cowardly failed attempted at throwing his men under the bus to have her spare him.
- Because his actions that got him killed his death alongside Gazelf Strongoff's in the battle of Katz Plains was enough to send his father into a depression and cause his metal state to decline. This also make Carne Village fully deflect to the Sorcerer Kingdom for Re-Estate not coming in their time of need for help while Ainz Ooal Gown did, making them seen his Sorcerer Kingdom as improvement and happily risked death for their loyalty.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- While his corrupted acts of letting Eight Fingers run amuck for in exchange for money, not doing anything in Demonic Disturbance arc, and attempted genocide on a village might be baseline passing however Overlord got a VERY HIGH Heinous Standard as acts like this too common to the point where it's basically considered bog-standard by series standards, his higher resources doesn't help that this makes him fails the baseline to Clementine who did the same with an attempted genocide on a E-Rentel that has an much higher population with much lower resources lacking an army or political power of her own and only having a undead cult to work with, she stands out more than him due to her sadism and personal villainy with Ainz Ooal Gown. He even fails to his own sister Rennar who had same resources as him did worse with utilizing less than her with her intelligence of working with Sorcerer Kingdom by selling her kingdom away with giving them the idea of her own Kingdom's fall which had little to no changes on their part in exchange for hogging Climb to herself and making her an demon, killing an entire orphanage with poison, tricking Climb to deflect with her without hating him & convince him to do the same of being a demon while maintaining her image.
- He suffers too much fridge-horror on his planned acts like assassinating his brother and selling his sister for money, or forcing Narberal Gamma as Nabe are unlikely even if he was not killed by Lupusregina Beta and somehow became King to his Kingdom or if he didn't have to deal with the Goblin Army, or if Lupusregina Beta spared him he would be doomed anyways even if Fridge Logic is applied and is used as an valid argument:
- Rennar would be under Narizarck's protection due to her allyship from their deal meaning if he attempt to do it he would be thwarted or worse killed and if he was not killed then he would've died during an alternate Fall of the Re-Estate Kingdom since then he be alive for it.
- Even forcing Narberal to date him will fail from the get go as even if she was pressured to go along for sake of her reputation as Nabe, it will only have him dig his grave as it will only paint a target on his back and Ainz will not likely let it happen anyways due to his care for the NPCS so this act alone would be a death sentence to him if he try to force Narberal to be his. It is possible Ainz might let her kill him personally if he don't feel like doing it himself. Or worse he use him as a scapegoat to further Re-Estate to fall sooner with his actions of corruption.
- If he somehow drafted the Villagers without resistance and Lupusregina Beta weren't there stop him, Ainz Ooal Gown would've find some way to keep them from being killed to keep his image or if not he use it as excuse that they get innocents killed while stating all he killed were at least combat of war which would make the Sorcerer Kingdom won over more and cripple Re-Estate's reputation or worse have him destroy it more early in the main series by using him as a scapegoat.
- If he did manage to win against Carne Village without the Goblin Army and Lupusregina Beta stopping him, he would earn Ainz Ooal Gown's wrath since he protected it in his name, plus have minor genuine care with some of it's people such as Neifia, Enri and Nemu (viva pet dog moments) despite, mostly being for usefulness reasons. Ainz would've avenge them but wouldn't destroy the kingdom since he honored Gaself Strongoff's death to not cause more damage, he would've politically call them out for warcrimes and hypocrites that despite his higher kill count, he point out none were civilians and all combatants unlike Carne Village who only civilians who acted in self defense. This would've only make the Sorcerer Kingdom look better and Re-Estate would be hurt for warcrimes on civilians. Or worse have him be used as a scapegoat and trigger his kingdom's fall. He also be scolded by his father and siblings too for his actions and likely be disinherited from the throne.
- Even if Lupusregina Beta did let him go and live, he would been screwed anyways when he returned as his father and siblings would've scolded him for his actions of attempted warcrimes instead of his father's original intended plan. This would allow Zanaic and Renner to use it as a excuse to convince their father to disinherit him as they point out not only disobeying orders that got all of his men killed and attempted to kill innocent civilians but it would likely made the Sorcerer Kingdom their enemy if Ainz wasn't feeling generous because of Gazelf Strongoff's sacrifice, might even use his selfless sacrifice to further prove Barbaro is unfit, and say it might make Carne Village favor Ainz Ooal Gown even more than ever. This would be enough to convince both siblings to have their father to disinherit him and ruining.
- He cares for his father, wife, Blugurg, and admit with some respect his brother Zannaic might be smarter which prevents him from being PE even if he was heinous enough.
Trivia[]
- If Overlord's Heinous Standard was much lower, he would been Near Pure Evil but his genuine and respect for few people would be a minor prevention from him qualifying being Pure Evil even then.
