His Evil Ranking[]
His Villainous Deeds[]
- While somewhat honorable, he tends to betray his allies when they least expect it as shown when he tried to betray Dagur (but it backfired) and tried to get rid of Heather (Astrid in disguise) once their use was up.
- Alvin and the Outcast only teamed up with the Berkians in the comic Legend of Ragnarok to fight the Purple Death to save their own skin, not honor.
- Tried to kidnapped Hiccup many times to train dragons to conquer Berk.
- Attempted to kill the Dragon Riders many times.
- When trying to learn to train dragons he threw one into a cave and earlier in his first appearance he made one fall to it presumably death.
- He took Heather's parents hostage as a way to force Heather to steal the Book of Dragons. He later threatened to kill them if she turned against him.
- While he is kind to Mildew, he often threatens to kill him when things don't go right.
- He planted Whispering Death eggs under Berk with the intention of having them hatch and attack the village. When the Whispering Deaths hatched, they endangered multiple civilians.
- He teamed up with Dagur to attack Berk, but planned to betray and kill him and his men so that he could take the Skrill for himself.
- His backstory of how he got banished is kind of weak since his reckless caused casualties and Stoick tried to tolerate him, but he had to banish Alvin after he betrayed them first and it was to keep people safe.
Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]
- While he passes the baseline due to endangering numerous civilians, he does not pass the high heinous standard of the franchise. While he cannot be compared to Drago Bludvist or the Red Death due to them having far more resources, he still fails the heinous standard hard to Krogan, Grimmel the Grisly, Viggo and Ryker Grimborn, and Wilma Sledkin, who all do much worse than him with way less resources and screentime.
- Even though his actions almost outweigh his tragedy, it still exists, as he was once friends with Stoick and was a resident of Berk until several accidents caused by Alvin against the dragons, ultimately leading to his banishment by Stoick because, in his view, he posed a danger to the people, although Alvin ultimately tried to protect the village in his own way. Although it was largely his own fault, he still felt betrayed and abandoned by all of his friends, which makes his resentment and hatred of Berk, at least, makes it understandable.
- Despite his attempts to betray Dagur and keep the Skrill, he is mostly honorable, often keeping his agreements. For example, he released all of the Berkians he had captured after Hiccup confronted him, released Heather's parents back to Astrid, who was posing as Heather, and spared Mildew when he promised his plans would work. Even when their plans failed, he never executed him despite his threats and always relied on him. He also saved Snotlout from Screaming Death, stood up to Berk, helped Stoick against the invasion against Dagur, and helped Hiccup save his father. He also stopped Dagur from attacking Hiccup from behind. Years later, after the Krogan and the dragon flyers wounded Stoick, he voluntarily came to Berk to protect it from further attacks and to take care of Stoick.
- Occasionally, he shows respect, even opposite his enemies: for example, he began to respect Hiccup for his ability to tame dragons and even helped him later. Despite his threats to Mildew, he also recognized his brilliance and even told Hiccup that he trusted him and would always rely on him. He also trusted his former right-hand man, Savage, and always counted on his support. After his capture by Krogan's men, he thanked Snotlout and Fishlegs, who was briefly Thor Bonecrusher and posed as a member of their ranks, for freeing him. He also respected Stoick and reconciled with him, later protecting him and Berk.
- He ultimately redeemed himself by helping Hiccup save his father and defeat Dagur. He then remained one of Berk's allies for the rest of the series. He also reconciled with Stoick, who gave him a second chance and helped him in the future.
Trivia[]
- It's ironic that he is a Villainous Benchmark, since his original book counterpart was not only Pure Evil, but the main antagonist of the series as well.
- He, alongside Johann, is the one of the two HTTYD main antagonists to be a Villainous Benchmark.
