Villainous Benchmark Wiki

Look at my face. Look what they did to me. Now, I wore that mask to protect me and my family because there are aliens who don't like to hear what I believe, don't like to hear the truth, so I'm cards up. What about Supergirl, huh? You know who I am. Who is she?
~ Agent Liberty.
Well, history is extreme, truth is extreme. The classroom isn't a safe place where everyone gets to hear a fairy tale version of the facts. And if students can't handle perspectives that are different than their own, then I don't know. Maybe they don't belong here.
~ Lockwood expressing his opinions to his class.
Because we can come together and we can tear out this alien disease that threatens to poison our world, we can invite them to return to the planets that they came from and we can restore health and vitality and security to this country. And I, as your Agent of Liberty, will stand with you as we dare to put Earth first!
~ Agent Liberty’s speech.

Benjamin "Ben" Lockwood, also known as Agent Liberty, is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Lex Luthor) in Season 4 and a minor antagonist in Season 5 in the TV series Supergirl.

He is the leader of the Children of Liberty who wants to rid the Earth of all aliens to prove that the human race is superior to extraterrestrials on other planets.

He is portrayed by Sam Witwer, who also voiced Darth Maul in all animated Star Wars shows.

His Evil Ranking[]

His Villainous Deeds[]

In General[]

  • Despite claiming to be an extremist who wants to make the Earth safer, his actions show that he’s motivated by nothing but pure hatred, bigotry and xenophobia, having no problem endangering humans or risking their lives to hurt aliens.

Past[]

  • Even before becoming Agent Liberty, he was already extremely prejudiced and hateful towards Aliens, even his own students, which cost him his job.
  • He rejected Lena Luthor’s offer to help him and his family during their time of need, accusing her of choosing aliens over humans and that they were to blame for every bad thing that has happened to him and his family.
  • He joined his friends in setting fire to the Nth Metal Factory as revenge for putting their factory out of business.
  • He beat an innocent alien to death with a pipe due to recognizing him as the same alien who accidentally stabbed him years earlier.
  • He formed the Children of Liberty in order to rid the earth of alienkind, refusing to consider aliens as real people and killing many of them just for the sake of it

Season 4[]

  • He kidnapped Fiona Byrne and killed her by stabbing her in the back with a blade to send a message to other aliens. This would cause Fiona’s fiancé Manchester Black to return to his violent ways and start a quest of revenge against Lockwood, getting many innocent people and eventually forming the Elite.
  • While he did not order Mercy and Otis Graves to release Kryptonite into the atmosphere to kill Supergirl, Lockwood was still aware of it and showed no remorse that it almost resulted in her death.
  • He brainwashed two aliens into attacking innocent people at a fair, including children, in an attempt to make humans turn against the alien population.
  • He showed no remorse or care over the deaths of the Grave siblings, showing he was only working with them for his own benefit and never cared about them.
  • He forcibly infected Jansen with an alien parasite, which was shown to be a painful process, allowing him to absorb the life force of other aliens.
  • He tried to manipulate James Olsen into destroying a monument while a powerless Supergirl was trapped inside of it while declaring his allegiance to the Children of Liberty.
  • He tried to kill Manchester Black in revenge for trying to kill him and his wife.
  • He brutally beat one of his own followers to death for trying to usurp him.
  • When Alex Danvers was assigned to his security detail, Lockwood acted very smug and arrogant towards her, even mocking J’onn to her face for being an alien.
  • Upon being promoted to the Director of Alien Affairs by President Baker, Lockwood attempts to repeal the Alien Amnesty Act, claiming it gave alien criminals leeway, but clearly just wanted to dehumanize aliens.
  • He hosted a rally to lead his supporters against the Pro-Alien Protest.
  • He oversaw an alien being taken away from his family just because the man was an alien, then threatening his wife when she protested. This would ultimately come back to bite Lockwood, as the man’s wife would take revenge by murdering his wife, Lydia.
  • He stormed the CatCo building in order to capture Dreamer to end her inspirational speech.
  • He hunted down the alien who murdered his wife, arresting her along with all the other aliens present just for protecting her, even ordering that they be subjected to torture.
  • He tries to brutally kill James by stomping on him with his newfound super-strength.
  • He killed Otis Graves after the latter revealed Lex Luthor manipulated his rise to power, despite James saying they needed him to find Lex.
  • He led his men in attacking Shelley Island to get revenge on Lex for using him as a pawn, while also intending to kill all of his alien prisoners.
  • Despite knowing how dangerous Lex is, Lockwood prioritizes fighting with Supergirl and her team upon encountering them, instead of working with the heroes to defeat Lex.
  • He fought against James and stabbed him with a Harun-El extractor, injuring one of James’ eyes in the process.
  • While he’s ultimately exposed as a pawn of Lex Luthor, which ruins his reputation, resulting in his imprisonment and being forced to watch as his own son rejects everything he believed in and no longer has his love, it is more than richly deserved after everything he did and it isn’t played for sympathy.

Season 5[]

  • In one of the alternate timelines created by Mr. Mxyzptlk, Lockwood poisoned the atmosphere with Kryptonite just like in the original timeline, but it resulted in Supergirl’s death this time around. In another timeline, Lockwood kidnaps Lena Luthor and Thomas Coville, threatening to kill them both unless Supergirl revealed her identity, which Kara ultimately does. Sometime later, Lockwood hunts down and kills all of Supergirl’s friends. Though Lockwood released Lena and Coville after Supergirl complied with his demands instead of killing them like Otis suggested, this point is rendered moot as Lockwood kills all of her friends anyway, which likely included Lena since the report mentioned there were no survivors.

Why He Doesn’t Stand Out?[]

  • While his actions certainly cross the baseline, he fails the Heinous Standards of the Arrowverse, particularly to Lex Luthor who used Lockwood as a pawn and orchestrated his rise to power.
  • He is tragic, as he was once a mild-mannered professor who fought for alien rights until he was accidentally injured by an alien he was defending, had his home burned down during the Daxamite Invasion, lost his job as a result of his prejudice towards Aliens and was forced to watch his father die, causing him to become Agent Liberty.
  • He genuinely cares about his family, mourning the deaths of his father Peter and wife Lydia, and being devastated when his son George declares his hatred of him.
  • He has standards against harming or killing humans, even stopping the Graves siblings from killing the D.E.O. agent who freed them and instead recruited him to his cause. However, this is a minor prevention as he takes no issue in endangering the lives of innocent humans just to achieve his goals.
