Abbott Hayes is the main antagonist in the 2001 direct-to-video horror film Children of the Living Dead. He is a rapist and murderer who returns from the dead and leads his own team of zombies upon a town.

He was portrayed by A. Barrett Worland.

His Evil Ranking[]

Her Villainous Deeds[]

  • While he had a tragic past since he was sexually abused by his mother and forced to dress up in women's clothing, this doesn't justify his crimes.
  • Before the events of the film, he raped and murdered many women, but was eventually captured and put on death row before escaping from the morgue and coming back as a zombie who led a team of zombies that attacked his hometown.
  • He held some children hostage at his barn.
  • While Randolph escorted the children to safety, Abbott killed Hughes and made an escape.
  • Spotting some teenagers hanging around his former home, he caused their deaths by stepping out onto the road while they were driving in their vehicle, causing them to swerve and go off the edge of a cliff.
  • After their burial, Abbott opened the caskets and bit each one, bringing them back to life as part of his plan to start another zombie attack.
  • When someone came across to clean up the mess, he attacked the man, dumped his body in the casket and buried it.
  • When a businessman arrives to move the bodies from the cemetery to a mass grave so he can build a car dealership, Abbott orders his new undead army to start a new attack on the town.
  • He attempts to kill Randolph just so he could force Laurie Danesi (an innocent child) to shoot himself.
  • Despite the zombie attack once again being stopped, Abbott was still unwilling to give up or regret his actions, meaning he lacks redeeming qualities and is always taken seriously.

Why Doesn't He Stand Out?[]

  • While him committing rape is enough to pass the baseline, he fails the individual capability too much for NPE, as he has a large zombie horde under his command, but all he does is kill 4 people (including a dog), attempt to kill the heroes and unintentionally cause a road accident.
    • While it's true that he hasn't just gone after 4 people, it's unclear how many people he killed before the film's events and this lacks any importance to the plot.
  • He doesn't show enough personality, as all he does is groan without saying anything. He just acts like a typical mute zombie, and while he does show some sadism (such as when he buried a man alive) and has some intellect (as he goes back to the graves of the teens and turns them into zombies), his motive is too vague as it's not really known why he wants to kill everyone other than just being evil.

Trivia[]

  • Abbott Hayes was originally Pure Evil, but was later cut. Thus, it was decided that Abbott is a Villainous Benchmark in spite of his crimes.
